About JohnDiew.com

This blog is about My life as well as my passion in ACG culture, Photography and Technology.

I started blogging back in the year 2005 after my father subscribed for the 1 megabit Streamyx broadband. 1 megabit was TM’s fastest consumer internet bandwidth at that time, so it’s something to brag about.

My first blog was on Microsoft’s blogging platform – MSN Spaces, which later re-branded as Windows Live Spaces (WLS). It was sometime around September 2005 when I uploaded the very first blog post. To be frank, I never had great experience in using the MSN Spaces as the WYSIWYG editor is practically unusable and I have to write all my blog post via HTML. I believe that’s how I get to learn all those HTML basics.

After two horrendous years of using WLS, a close friend introduces WordPress to me and I’m hooked with the flexibility and user-friendliness of the blogging platform. Immediately I signed up for an account – johndiew0107.wordpress.com.

Despite I had the WordPress blog registered on August 2007, but due to sentimental reasons and procrastination, I couldn’t bring myself to move over from Windows Live Spaces. I experimented on WordPress for the coming 9 months. May 2008, I finally close down my Windows Live Spaces and migrate over to WordPress, leaving all data behind.

August 2010, I registered a domain – johndiew0107.com, with a local domain registrar company. At the same year, I started the blog link sharing project in order to create a much larger reader community. The programme helped to grow my site’s readership up to 7000 unique clicks per month.

Just 1 year later, I decided to change the domain name to www.johndiew.com which is much easier to remember. At the same time, changing the domain name registrar and hosting services to GoDaddy due to better pricing and hosting specifications. The process was smooth but I lost some viewer in the switching progress. Lesson learnt, always do thorough research before taking any action.

Here’s a simple timeline history of JohnDiew.com
