First Impression: Valvrave the Liberator

Valvrave - 06

Try to pronounce Valvrave in Japanese > barubureibu… some sort of tongue twister

It’s been quite a while since I last had a new mecha series in my watchlist. This season we have Valvrave the Liberator which seems quite promising.

Not sure if this is another overbudget commercial for Bandai’s upcoming product or a hidden gem.

Lightning First Impression: Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou

Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou - 01

After watching the first episode, I think it was so-so.

There are several mini chapters packed in an episode, but only half of them could really make me laugh like mad man.

Thus, the gag is either hit or miss.

Nevertheless, it’s a good anime for a good laugh and time killing.

Story

The core and most important factor of this ground breaking series. I personally thinks this anime has a very unique, promising, shocking story plot. It’ll turn out to be the century’s best anime if they conduct the story properly from the begining until the end.

First of all, season 2 still posses the shocking twist of story as shown in season 1. This is a good point, however, being unable to properly explain the shock is very confusing for us audiences. The story began to revolve around the mystery power of geass which we wondered during the first season. Thus the story is very interesting and you can’t stop watching once you started it.

However, season 2 seems to focus more on the battle. I think this causes the anime to have to rush in order to continue conducting the story. Resulting a poor expansion of the complex story line. Too much aspects left in confusion. If they increase the episode number and explain the story in a proper way. I think I would give it (almost) perfect score. I really like this story.

The animation of this series has improved a lot if compared with the first series. By the way, I think those who already watched the first season has begin to like the character design by CLAMP. At least accept it, or else you won’t enjoy this amazing series.

The elegance of the artwork and the details had just undergo an intense evolution. The motions are more fluid and features more action scenes which many mecha fans crazy about it. Moreover, the CG effects are astonishing. Everything are great. I enjoyed watching this show very much, HD is GREAT.

Forget about the episode 20 and 22…. those deserve to get something like 6/10… epic fail. Still they fixed the problems on their DVD releases.

  2. “WORLD END” by FLOW (eps 13-25)

Ending Theme(s):

  1. “Shiawase Neiro” by Orange Range
  2. “My Beautifully Elegant Flower of Evil” by ALI PROJECT
  3. “Continued Story” by Kuroishi Hitomi (ep 26)

  2. “Lullaby of M” by Hitomi
  3. “Boku wa, Tori ni Naru.” by Hitomi
  4. “Continued Story” by Hitomi

The music for CODE GEASS is very unique, which I think is another important factor of this series, because the music fits the show perfectly. The opening are great but I prefer the first ending more. I love the concept of the first ending, with a soothe song + elegance character artwork. While Ali Project’s music… I still can accept it…

The soundtracks are done as well as the first season, using the same genre of soundtrack, introducing new soundtracks.

I love the insert song of CODE GEASS, I forgot to mention about this factor during my review of CODE GEASS season 1, my apologize. Personally I think the soundtrack of the show is brilliant and full of emotions. Great story line + Geart insert song = emotions + applause.

Story

First of all, I enjoyed watching the first season of Gundam 00. The starting of this series is very promising and full of potential. We’re reintroduced to our old characters and even some new characters. A very good starting, filled with actions and informations. Kept the old audience and attracts new audience.

Those secrets/unknowns left from season 1 are being uncovered one by one as the story goes on. However, I found out that the main plot seems to be changed a bit… Unlike the first season, they want to change the world, while in second season, the plot changed to “destroy and rebirth”… However, at the end it doesn’t seems to be “rebirth” to me… its more like “Innovation”… Maybe I should rewatch the series to further understand about the story.

First season, the battles emphasizes on 50% tactical analysis + 50% Gundam = win a battle. I love this kind of battles so much that I could say it has the best gundam battles among the Gundam series. However, in second season, we don’t have much chance to experience Sumeragi’s kick @ss tactical analysis… and the last 1/3 part of the season, it turns out to be 25% tactical + 75% GODLIKE Gundam… Yeah, kinda dissapointed… I was expecting it to be something more astonishing…

If you enjoyed watching season 1, season 2 would definitely be in your watchlist. It may has some weakpoints, it is still a great series to watch of.

The animation quality for second season, if compared with the first season, it would definitely be better. Wonderful background artwork and character/mecha illustration. The special effects from season one are refined and applied in the second season. The quality is very consistent.

The motions are very fluid, especially the battle scenes are done very well.

Even though the animation quality is very good, but personally, I think that it just reach around of my expectation and doesn’t exceed much of it… The elegance and naturality is there, however the details are not detailed enough.. just like Detail within Details…

What a huge list of opening, ending and insert theme songs, for a 25 episode anime… Both opening songs give out different feelings, the first one seems to be more rock while the second is kind of “ballad rock”..

While the ending themes are brilliant, personally I think the endings are better than the opening. Especially the first ending, “Prototype”, is one of my favourite song. While the other endings are very nice too, such as “trust you” has a very nice ending animation and it fits the song perfectly. Overall, great and wonderful tracks.
