Logitech X-540 Speaker System

Logitech X-540 - 01

Short review of Logitech X-540 speaker system.

Not gonna write a lot, will just go through the specs and how I think on it.

Logitech X-540 - 02

Typical box design by Logitech.

Satellites: 45 watts RMS (2 x 7.4W front, 15.4W centre, 2 x 7.4W rear)
Subwoofer: 25 watts RMS
Total RMS power: 70W
Peak RMS power: 140W

Got this speaker system at a fairly nice price of MYR330.

Consider as an entry level of 5.1 surround sound system.

Taking out everything. A subwoofer, user manual and cables.

The cardbox holds the satellite speakers.

I’m amazed that they could fit 5 speakers in that box.

You can clip this speaker on top of your monitor. (Sorry i didn’t took the photo.)

The base of the satellite speakers can be turned so that you could mount the speaker on the wall.

Subwoofer and control center.

Logitech X-540 - 14

Control center – volume knob, bass knob, mute button, matrix button and headphone jack.

With Matrix enabled, the speaker itself will turn your 2.0 source into 5.1 sound.

If you’re playing a music which is 2.0 stereo, that means only the front 2 speakers will play the music. After you enabled matrix, sort of virtual surround system, all the speakers will play the music, while the center channel will focus more on the vocals. This works on movies and games too..

However, if you enable matrix with the 5.1 source, you’ll get crappy sound.. Since matrix will only decode the signal received from the green cable which is front channel.

Logitech X-540 - 15

Rear side of the subwoofer. 3 input and 5 outputs lol… cable hell.

Logitech X-540 - 16

The driver is underneath the subwoofer. It is designed to pump the “BOOM” to the floor and let the floor to deflect/transfer the “BOOM” throughout the room.

Good thing about this speaker system is it has nice design, especially the center channel which you can clip onto your monitor, yeah, that is Center channel. and you could mount the other satellites on the wall too.

The price is superbly affordable for a 5.1 surround system. Finally I could enjoy my movies and games in surround sound. The experience is incomparable with my previous 2.0 or 2.1 system.

The downside is… well, I think the X-540 is too weak because previously I’ve used my friend’s 220W amplifier on 2x BMB speakers for a few months, which is AMAZING. I know this is unfair, but I just couldn’t help comparing both of them.

But rest assured, it is a nice speaker system. If you have the money, go for the Z5500, it pwns.

  1. Very nice! They were selling these at work for 74 USD. Someone who works with me bought them and said if you don’t have surround sound inputs on your computer it only plays out of 3 speakers. Which of course makes sense, but I had no idea you could enable Matrix D:

In a rush for a new sound system I bought a sound bar put out by Vizio. It cost about 100 USD after taxes. The sound is much better than my old system, but it lacks so much bass since it does not have a subwoofer. Luckily it has a input to add one later if you want.

Thanks for the review I am kicking myself in the ass for not getting the X-540 now xD
